The Year 1 Team

This term the Year 1 students have been busy bees. We have started off the term with our concert practice. The students have also been learning how to write and follow procedural texts and as part of this students made their own butter, using thickened cream.

We had fun planting our own white beans as part of our integrated studies topic “Living Things”. Our students watched their beans grow and took care of them on a day-to-day basis. We kept a diary of the progress of our plants, which helped us gain a better understanding about how living things grow and how to maintain them. As a part of this topic, we visited the Melbourne Museum to watch a documentary, “Mighty Beasts” (insects) at IMAX. We visited the dinosaurs exhibition and observed all sorts of bugs at the bug exhibition.

Our students had a great time during our character parade for book week. We had a great number of Year 1 students dress up as their favourite book characters. Well done to everyone who put in the effort and dressed up!!!

The Year 2 Team

It was a busy start to the semester. Students have been enthusiastic and hardworking exploring many different learning experiences. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our parents who support their children’s learning. This term students enjoyed taking part in the gymnastics program as well as our excursion to Melbourne Zoo.

In class, students have been learning how to write a procedure using specific verbs. Students put their skills into practice by following a procedure while making jelly, fairy bread, Chinese lanterns and more. During Maths classes, students have been focusing largely on multiplication. To carry out their learning, we have been playing top dog each week to encourage them to practise their facts. During Integrated Studies classes, we have been focusing on the topics of Watch it Grow and Water Works. Students enjoyed making grass heads as well as noting down all changes that they went through.

Just a reminder that students are required to complete their online homework tasks within a week. Online tasks are part of homework. We also would like to encourage parents to read regularly with their children to assist with comprehension.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.
